Gaming for Devereux 2012

Early this year, Dedman Productions hosted a video game marathon to raise awareness and money for the Devereux foundation in League City, Texas. Though we failed to raise anything, we did educate a number of viewers, and learned quite a but from the experience. Promotion and marketing could make all the difference; after all, if people don’t know about an event, then you can be certain that they won’t watch.

In an effort to raise awareness of the event, we will reach out to gaming circles and eloquently inform them about Gaming for Devereux, which is set to launch July 14th at 2pm. To avoid confusion, the event will be hosted on this site.

Inside the Game

Inside the Game, not to be confused with the college sports broadcast, differs from other video game commentary/review shows in that it offers an analytical perspective in a hyperbolic fashion. Charles Luther, with his PhD in Videogameology and NESology, observes video games and breaks them down for covert political messages, social commentary, and other odd metaphors. Dr. Luther firmly believes that video games, like other works of art, need to have their chance for analytical interpretations. If fine cinema, books, and abstract paintings can become immortalized through such lengthy interpretations that often result from seeing more than what is actually there, then so can video games. Why shouldn’t they?

Currently, the show has three episodes that cover Spiritual Warfare (NES), Super Mario Bros., and Ghosts ‘n Goblins.

Casual Gamers — Observation

Casual Gamers, with only two episodes in, has received a mixed reception so far. Some viewers really enjoyed it, while others expressed disappointment. But with any form of entertainment, hell with anything in general, there will always be those that like and those that don’t like.

We don’t make a show for those that don’t like, as they allowed us to know that they did not enjoy the show. Okay, fair enough, cast your vote and be on your way so that others can enjoy it. We create shows like Zombie Hunter, Casual Gamers, and Inside the Game, for a specific audience, for a specific demographic but this process isn’t exactly perfected. Just because you reach out for a specific audience does not mean that everyone will of that audience will enjoy it.

Case in point with metal. I love heavy metal music from Classic Rock to Death Metal, but I do not like every band. The bands I don’t enjoy, should they give up and go home? No. They obviously put a lot of time an energy into their sound and image, but unfortunately it is not for me. But that’s okay. Should an artist change his style to please those that dismissed him? Why should he? He has his audience, and they like his current work, and to change the style that pleased them might leave them feeling like they’re no longer appreciated.

It is my personal philosophy that an artist, a creator, should not allow the opinions of the people to direct him. It might sound good for the artist to cave to the people in the beginning as it rewards with recognition, but is it recognition of the artist’s vision or of the what the people want the artist to be? My belief on this matter is that if the artist persists with his direction, with his vision, the recognition he get will be far more meaningful.

What I’m getting at is that we recognize the mixed response of Casual Gamers, but we do not see it as a negative thing. Casual Gamers, in many ways, is very meta in how it is constructed. It combines video game commentary, such as the bit on Kill Streak awards and on Duke Nukem Forever, with unconventional situational comedy that gets influence from Seinfeld and Clerks. The plot of the season may seem trivial, but for the characters, the importance of losing the stigma of being called casual gamers is extremely important.

Dedman Productions will be focusing on Zombie Hunter as before, but personally I’m a guy that can’t seem to enjoy “not doing anything” so more episodes of Casual Gamers will be happening soon.

Inside the Game: Ghost ‘n Goblins

Episode Three: Ghost ‘n Goblins

Dr. Luther, after avoiding all of our calls, finally decided to come into the studio to analyze Ghost ‘n Goblins. Instead of providing his usual insight, Dr. Luther had an emotional breakdown while ranting about how Ghost ‘n Goblins is a metaphor on the bane of man’s existence known simply as the Cock-Tease.

In case you blinked, there’s YET ANOTHER new zombie movie to feast on. Heh. A Little Bit Zombie, made by the guys behind Evil Dead: The Musical and filmed in Victoria, British Columbia (where people are happy 24 hours a day and lollipops grow out the ground), is being billed as a “Rom-Zom-Com.” In regular speak, that’s a “romantic zombie comedy.” There’s two words too many in that description.

I can't seem to get enough zombie comedy. If you're a fan of Evil Dead, Shaun of the Dead, and don't mind a little musical action, then check this out.

Zombie Hunter Needs Your Help

We’re raising funds to make the 2nd season of Zombie Hunter awesome!

Season two is in pre-production and we’ve revised the scripts to make them as affordable as possible, but we can’t escape the fact that additional funds will be needed in order to make some of the scenes happen.

We know money is tight right now, but every little bit helps.

Help make season two possible so that it can be the show that the fans deserve. Zombie Hunter with a bigger cast, more diverse locations, better editing, and professional cameras.

Zombie Hunter Season Two Details!

Dedman Productions is currently working on the scripts for season two, and I can honestly tell you there isn’t a dull moment in any of the episodes so far. The new characters, the two new marauder hunters, allow for so much more flexibility and diversity in how certain themes are approached. Though the Marauder hunting group might be a tad dysfunctional, they each have their own winning qualities to them that make them stand out.

That’s not all. Season two calls for more locations, better filming equipment, and more marketing. Check out what the creator of the show, Jesse Dedman, has to say about it.
